Google Chrome Crashing, Freezing After Windows 10 April 2018 Update? Microsoft Is Working On It

Microsoft recently rolled out its much-awaited Windows 10 April Update, and while it comes with a number of important features, it also brings some snags.
A number of users have reported that Google Chrome has been acting up since they updated to the latest version of Windows 10, causing their device to freeze or crash completely.
Last month, Microsoft had to delay the Windows 10 April Update over Blue Screen of Death issues.

Chrome Is Acting Up On Windows 10 April Update

Microsoft has acknowledged the issues occurring with Chrome, confirming that some devices might hang or totally lock up when using the browser on the latest Windows 10 update. The company says it is working to come up with a fix in time for next week's Patch Tuesday on May 8, but affected users may try the following tips in the meantime:
If the device freezes, try using the combination Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B. This attempts to restart the graphics driver. For those using a tablet, simultaneously press the volume up and down buttons three times within two seconds. For those using a laptop, try to close the lid, then open it.
It remains unclear what's behind the freezing and crashing but developers from Google, Microsoft, and Intel are looking into it. In a Chromium bug report thread, Intel developer Yang Gu claims the bug only affects those using version 1803 of Windows 10 with Intel Kaby Lake HD 620 and 630 chips.
There are also reports claiming Electron apps, such as Slack, that rely on an embedded version of Chromium, are crashing. Some users are also reporting problems with Firefox after installing the Windows 10 April Update, The Register notes.

Windows Insider Program

Such issues could have been avoided during Microsoft's rigorous Insider Program, especially with 10 million people signed up to help the company find issues and swat bugs way before rollout. But out of those 10 million, it's not clear just how many Insiders actively check Windows 10 for possible flaws.
Microsoft is planning to push out Windows 10 April Update more broadly on May 8, but as of yet, there is no confirmation if the company is still going through with that, given the issues it still has to iron out.
