Snapchat launching exclusive new app called Snap Pro, but there’s a HUGE catch
SNAPCHAT has a new app on the way called Snap Pro that's packed with exclusive perks.
As its name suggests, the release is aimed at power users of the main app, giving them the ability to create new profiles and check in-depth stats on how many people are viewing their Stories.
But before you get too excited, you should know that you probably won't be able to download it – unless you're a celeb or social media sensation.
“This product will be made for public entities – from public figures to local businesses to charitable causes – that want to use our platform to organically reach an audience beyond friends and family,” Snap’s chief strategy officer Imran Khan said earlier this week.
The app will make it “easier to manage a public profile, create and distribute content, understand audience insights, and, ultimately, advertise with us”.
Snap Pro finds Snapchat courting A-listers and brands after its recent drubbing over its botched redesign.
The overhaul was blasted by the public and celebs alike, with 1.2million people signing a Change.org petition demanding a rollback.
Meanwhile Snapchat fan Kylie Jenner sank the firm's stock price by tweeting that the redesign had turned her off her favourite app.
Even the company's billionaire CEO Evan Spiegel admitted the new look was a complete flop in the wake of his firm's disastrous earnings report.
Snapchat's quarterly results came in well below analysts' expectations, with the app crawling to 191million users and nabbing $230million in revenue.
Overall, those sluggish numbers contributed to the company's slowest-ever growth rate.
And to make matters worse, Facebook-owned Instagram continues to steal its thunder (and features).
The photo-sharing app's 800million users dwarf that of its rival and it just added video calls – a feature that's been available on Snapchat since 2016.
“Our redesign created some headwinds in our revenue this quarter by disrupting user behavior and creating some apprehension among our advertising partners” said Spiegel.
